At Huck’s Adventures we are committed to breeding healthy and happy Cavapoos and Miniature Poodle puppies that will make a wonderful addition to your family and home. As a small, in-home breeder located in Atkins, Iowa, we prioritize the well-being and quality of our dogs. We breed one litter at a time so we can focus on that specific litter. We spend a lot of time with with each puppy, performing daily tasks and curriculum based “classes”.
Our parent dogs are DNA health tested for the diseases common in their breed and they are OFA certified to ensure the highest standards of wellness. Our breeding program prioritizes temperament, genetic health and providing families with well-rounded, healthy companions.
Our goal is to offer you a healthy, well-prepared companion to bring joy and comfort to your household.
Healthy dogs are important to us! We hope you find your perfect companion here at Huck’s Adventures. Here is our program and why your puppy is different:
HEALTH TESTED PARENTS
All of our breeding dogs live in our home, ensuring they receive the love and care they deserve. We prioritize great temperaments alongside comprehensive health practices, including both genetic and physical health testing.
We firmly believe that a healthy puppy begins with healthy parents. Therefore, our parent dogs serve as the ideal examples of what a Cavapoo and Miniature Poodle should be, both in health and temperament. This foundation allows us to breed puppies that meet the highest standards in health & disposition
10 STEP HANDLING
At 3 weeks old we transition into a more advanced curriculum with our puppies set forth by Jeanette Forrey with 4E Kennels. We begin a “10 step puppy massage” every day and increase pressure weekly. We use our 10 step handling exercises to ensure our puppies are exposed to various types of touch, handling and sensation. This includes eyes, nose, inside mouth, around collar, tummy, down back, pull tail, tug on ears, and tapping nails. This type of training helps them to adjust to different people touching them. We hold them close to our hearts and our face. This creates a very special moment, its a safe, trusting connection. We are teaching them touch tolerance during this time.
PREGNANCY & WHELPING CARE
Our sweet mamas are given the best care throughout their pregnancy. From vet visits, extra nutrition, massages, extra special treatments & more, our Moms are well prepared to bring their puppies into the world. Once their due date approaches Moms are integrated into their whelping area. During whelping our moms receive delivery assistance as needed. They have someone staying in their room for the first 5 weeks to ensure her needs and puppies needs are met throughout the nights as needed.
CURRICULUM
At 3-8 weeks we also begin socializing our puppies to different sounds, sights, textures, things to climb on, run through and more. We believe in empowering over enabling our puppies. We set them up to conquer physical and mental challenges every day. By doing this we build our puppies’ nerve strength and confidence as well as problem solving skills. Our goal is to provide our puppies with a stable and enriching environment for the first 8 weeks of their lives.
ENS & ESI
Once puppies are born into the world at Huck’s Adventures, on 3-16 days old we begin ENS ~early neurological stimulation and ESI ~early scent introduction. ENS is known to improve cardiovascular performance, stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. ESI training is designed to enhance their ability to identify, and react to specific scents. On day 4-16 we also incorporate gentle handling taught by Jeanette Forrey. This is very gentle rubbing our hand down them, holding them close to our heart and face. This starts to introduce touch tolerance.
TEMPERAMENT TESTING
At 8 weeks of age (due to small breed), we conduct a puppy aptitude test on each individual puppy set forth by Jeanette Forrey’s Program. During the test we are focused on 12 important puppy temperament traits to help make sure you get a puppy that fits you, your lifestyle and your needs as well as honoring who the puppy is. Once temperament testing and vet checks are completed families will be able to watch evaluation videos and see scorecards of each puppy in order for them to make the right decision for their family on go home day. Picking of the puppy is made in the order of where the family was placed on the deposit list.
